FREE WRITE OF THE WEEK Dec. 9, 2013:
Author: Anonymous
I wake up and I hear the alarm. "Beep! Beep!" I roll over and hit snooze. Then when I hear my mom call, "Let's go, time to go to school!", that's when I freak out! Rushing out the door, I stop, wondering, where is Mr. Bert? (My elf on the shelf.) I always spend about 5 to 10 minutes looking for him! Today he had taken three cars, put dolls in them and made it look like they were driving. Although my cockatail didn't take it very well. He tried to eat him.
Well what is a elf on the shelf? It is an elf sent by Santa, he watches over children, but reports back to Santa at night. Every day he is in a different spot...or home!
ANNOUNCEMENTS: YOUR "THIS I BELIEVE" ESSAY IS A FORMAL GRADE AND IS DUE FRIDAY, DEC. 6

I wake up, my head spinning like a compass, trying to find out which way is north. I shake my head, and everything goes clear. I'm in this dark green room on a horribly uncomfortable water bed. There is this computer next to me with confusing data on it. There is a wire that attaches to my head that connects to the computer. Is this some kind of joke? I unplug the wire from my head, stand up and walk to a window at the end of the room. I look out the window and gasp. I;m in an alien ship on the soccer field with millions of other alien ships! Now, that's a lot to take in! I start to panic now, and before I die of fear, the door opens. I see two red glowing eyes. They walk up to me. They have a big green head, two hands, six legs, two red eyes, an awful green skin. Aliens. I scream, fall to the ground, dead. They shot me.
I wake up. I guess I'm not dead after all. I'm still my human self At least they haven't turned me into an alien...yet!
ANNOUNCEMENTS: Writers, our final copies of the review are due on Friday! Typed and printed.

Falling By
Fall falls by, as water turns to ice,
crystals come, to the Earth, as scurrying mice
go to the hearth, humans sleep unknowing,
omniscient birds, one and only, Flurrying through the
air, Sleeping forest, damp and dreary; trees are barren,
but yield they do; Rich sweet sap, after weeks and weeks
of bark, Bushes give berry, sweet and moist and meek,
Spring flings by, and ice melts to water, The cycle starts anew,
forever continue til' the end of time.
(Teacher's note: I chose this poem because it spoke to the current season and seamlessly told us a story of the beauties of autumn.)

HUHHH! I gasped for air. I was on the edge of the boat dock.
"Oh my gosh!" I saw a head float out of the water that had quickly turned into a man flying out of the water. I quickly burst into flames. It's not burning my skin. I begin to float off the ground. KABOOM!
16 HOURS EARLIER
Beep! Beep! Beep! I slammed the snooze button on my alarm clock. When I got up off my bed, my covers were burnt and the smoke alarms were on. I walked downstairs to find my family at the dining room table. Today was unusual because my parents were floating above the table.
"We know you are frightened, but you should not be, " said Mom.
"Our family has something greater than other families. Super powers," said Dad.
"So my power is to burn into flames and fly?" I exclaimed.
"No, you are fireproof, but not only that, you can defy gravity," said Dad.
16 HOURS LATER
KABOOM! I started throwing fireballs at the flying man. He shot sharp ice daggers my way. I blocked them with a shield of fire...
(Teacher's note: I chose this free-write because the author was so nonchalant about the characters having super powers. I thought that made it funny! Very creative.)
