FREE WRITE OF THE WEEK (Dec. 9, 2013:
Author: Anonymous
Being a writer, I find myself in many instances in which I sit with pencil in hand, music blasting in the background...and nothing written. Oftentimes I have good ideas circulating through my head, but I can't seem to find the right words. It's tough, but it's just a part of being a writer. There are days of writer's block, and there are days of pages upon pages of flowing, beautiful language. You can't have one without the other. And that's compromise I'm willing to put up with.
ANNOUNCEMENT: YOUR "THIS I BELIEVE" ESSAY IS A FORMAL ASSIGNMENT AND IS DUE ON FRIDAY, DECEMBER 6.
FREE WRITE OF THE WEEK: DEC. 1, 2013
My Scary Christmas Story
Author: Anonymous
One stormy Christmas Eve a girl named Suzy heard a noise. She first thought it was all in her head but then she heard it again, so she peeked out her window but she saw nothing. So she poked her head out her door to look down the hall way, but once again saw nothing. So she went back to bed. Twenty minutes later she heard another noise so she grabbed a baseball bat and went to the front room. She saw a man and hit him in the head with the bat!!! But Suzy then realized this man is no burglar...for he was just Santa Claus.

Adventure 2: The Cool Sequel

My plane sails through the stars
as we glide on the whispering winds
then crash on Venus like an ocean
hits the sound.
The aliens attack our ship, so
me and Jake Gyllenhaal take
our bazookas and make Venus
the bloodiest planet ever.
But alas, I woke up in an
Arby's bathroom.
(Teacher's note: I chose this free-write because it's one of the weirdest things I've ever read. Enough said.)
ANNOUNCEMENTS: Writers, you should be brainstorming more ideas for your review. We will be finishing our rough drafts in class on Wednesday.
FREE WRITE OF THE WEEK
Author: Anonymous
I remember two years ago on a Halloween night. My friend and I were weak on our feet and our will to trick-or-treat was losing its hope. We had been walking for about two hours and only half of our bags were full. We were just about to leave when we noticed a peculiar house at the end of the street. My friend said she didn't want to go to that house, for it looked quite scary, like something out of a horror movie. But I begged her and we rang the doorbell. Out came an old man. He smiled, to our surprise, and told us we were the first trick-or-treaters he'd have. In his gratitude, he gave us KING SIZED Twix bars, a treasure we would enjoy for the hours to come.
(Teacher's note: I chose this free-write in the spirit of Halloween. I loved its detail and the innocent tone of two trick-or-treaters looking for treasure.)
